On the 7th December 2007 Tristan Gooley will set sail from Lanzarote in a 32ft yacht. After 24 days alone at sea he hopes to land at St Lucia and become one of the only people ever to have both flown solo and sailed single-handed across the Atlantic.

01/01/08 Success! After 26 days at sea, Tristan arrives safely at Marigot Bay, St Lucia at 16.45.He is welcomed by family, flares, boat horns, a steel band and a party atmosphere. He becomes the first European, the youngest and only the second person in the world to have achieved the Atlantic Double. 'It's been quite a ride. I had only four hours single-handed sailing experience a month ago. I've got over six hundred now.' Tristan said to a crowd of well-wishers as he stepped ashore.'I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that prostate cancer kills one man every hour. I would also like to pay tribute to Steve Fossett, an extraordinary man.'

09/07/08 Tristan was presented with the Royal Institute of Navigation's Certificate of Achievement by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh.
